In response to yesterday's "Man
Rides Bike, Dog Rides Man" article, one reader of The Scoop
brought to our attention that we ought to make a small editorial
correction.
So, with our apologies, please
accept the following amendment to yesterday's transcript:
"When a dog bites a man, that is
not news, because it happens so often. But if a man bites a dog,
that is news." Frank
M. O'Brien,
The Story of the Sun (1918)
"When a man rides a
bike, that is not news. But if a dog rides a man who rides a
bike, now that is news." The
Scoop (May 3, 2001)
"When a dog rides a
tricycle, that is not news. When a cat rides a tricycle, that is not
news. When a mouse does gymnastics, that is not news. But
if a mouse does gymnastics on a cat who rides a dog who rides a
tricycle,
you need to call Sam Donaldson right away." Anon.

UPDATE
July 10, 2001
Thanks to a
Scoop reader who tells us
The item about the dog on a bicycle with the cat on
its head and the mice balancing on a bar held by the cat came home to me
immediately. My husband bought that as a poster for me several
years ago. The poster credits "Photography by Rick Dublin
©1994, copy Frank Brothers and published and distributed by Portal
Publications, LTD. Corte Madera, CA. The poster has the Legend-
"The trick about life is to make it look easy".
Overcoming natural species antipathy to do that balancing act is indeed
the trick about life. Hope you can give credit.
