The Cutest Puppy in the World Buried Alive

Wednesday, August 1, 2001 - UK

SUFFOLK — Ok, everybody have a look at the little puppy in the picture below:

(All together, now: "Awwwwwww.")

Ok, now, everybody imagine the despicable wretch who tried to kill this puppy by burying him alive.

(All together, now: "@#%m&*f#!!")

The UK's Eastern Daily Press and The Sun newspapers reported this past weekend the story of "Lucky", a newborn terrier who was dumped in a shallow grave, covered up and left to die by an as-yet unknown criminal.

Passerby Keith Boore happened to hear the faint squeals emanating from the ground last Thursday, July 28 and managed to disinter the wee pup in time to rush him to the vet where he received emergency life-saving treatment.

Said Mr. Boore, "I had to get on my hands and knees to reach through the soft earth that had recently been pushed into the hole.

"It was quite deep and I had removed a considerable amount of soil when suddenly I found what can only be described as a defrosted chicken.  But when I managed to get my hand under it, it moved.

"I gently brushed the earth from its mouth and I realized it was still alive."

Lucky was then brought to Buttons veterinary surgery (Lowestoft, Suffolk) where veterinarian Sara Oldman was able to bring the puppy's body temperature closer to normal while feeding him with a bottle and carefully monitoring his progress through the night.  "He was very hungry," she said.  "I fed him every two hours during the night and by morning he was fine."

RSPCA inspectors are currently investigating the situation and have issued a condemnation of the act, calling it "unbelievably cruel."

But meanwhile, Lucky seems to be getting along just fine with his newly-adopted mom, a Jack Russell Terrier in Lowestoft.

(Can we all end on a "Awwwwwww?")
